1990 Finals and 1989-90 Cam Neely Bruins Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match - Video Match
Lot #157

This road black knit jersey by CCM was worn by Cam Neely as the Bruins marched through the regular season and playoffs en route to the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals. Following 3 seasons in Vancouver, Cam joined the Bruins for the start of the 1986-87 season. This marked the beginning of a love affair between Neely and the Boston Garden faithful. Neely would spend 10 seasons representing the city of Boston before injuries forced him to hang up the skates for good. Neely was looked upon as the heart and soul of the team during his tenure with the Bruins. This era saw the franchise make the Stanley Cup Finals twice, only to fall at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers dynasty on both occasions.

Cam, who was among the deadliest snipers of his era, amassed 395 goals during his injury-shortened career. His goals per game total as a Boston Bruin stands at a most impressive 65% clip, a mark which ranks among the all-time elite. In addition to his immense talent, Neely played with an edge in the classic power forward style. Never shy about dropping the gloves, Cam racked up 1241 PIMS in 726 regular season games played. His playoff totals are also most impressive. Cam netted 57 goals and 168 PIMS in 98 playoff games played. In 1991 an unfortunate cheap shot by Ulf Samuelsson cost a then 26-year old Neely literally hundreds of games lost due to injury.

Cam was coming off of back-to-back 50-goal campaigns, and had he avoided that fateful blow, he likely would have ended among the all-time goal scoring elite. That fateful leg injury cost him nearly 2 full seasons, and then parts of the remaining few he was able to play. In the 1993-94 season, playing through what was later described as terrible pain, Neely netted a remarkable 50 goals in only 49 games. Cam was 4-times a 2nd team NHL All Star and played in 5 different NHL All Star games. In 1994 he was awarded the Bill Masterson trophy for the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Cam was deservedly inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.

Sewn to the right breast of this sweater is the coveted 1990 Stanley Cup Finals patch. Sewn to the left breast is the alternate captain’s “A”. This classic black knit exhibits an impressive amount of game wear, which so clearly matches the way this power forward played the game, with high intensity. There are numerous stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. This jersey has been both photo and video matched. Shown above are photo matches of Neely wearing this exact jersey during both the 1989-90 regular season and the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals. One of the photo matches shows Cam in action against the Hartford Whalers, well before many of the stick marks and game wear that are now so apparent found their way on to the shirt. Another photo match shows Cam wearing this jersey during the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals.

Also shown above are video matches of Cam wearing this exact jersey during the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals. Neely was brilliant as the Bruins marched to the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals. In 21 playoff games he netted 12 goals including 2 game winners and amassed 28 points. As was his way, he also accumulated 51 penalty minutes. The 1990 Stanley Cup Finals were the 2nd year that the NHL sewed Finals patches on to the player’s game jerseys. It was the only season since the NHL began this procedure, 20 years ago, that the Bruins were participants in the Finals thus making these highly cherished by Boston Bruins collectors. Fit for the finest Boston Bruins and or Hall of Fame collection, we believe this example to be the ultimate Cam Neely jersey one could own.
