1990-91 Roland Melanson New Jersey Devils Pre-Season Game Worn Jersey
Lot #57

This road red knit gamer by CCM was worn by Roland Melanson during the 1990-91 NHL pre-season. The New York Islanders selected Melanson in the 3rd round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. In 1980-81 the Islanders cleared a path for Melanson by trading Chico Resch to the Colorado Rockies. Rollie appeared in 11 games that rookie season and 3 more in the playoffs as he captured his first of 3 consecutive Stanley Cups with the dynasty Islanders. Rollie spent 3 more full seasons with the Islanders and virtually split the regular season goaltending duties with Hall of Famer Billy Smith during that span. He appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals in each of his first 4 seasons with the Islanders, a streak that ended with the emergence of Kelly Hrudey and his subsequent trade to the Minnesota North Stars. Rollie spent parts of two years in Minnesota before a deal sent him to Los Angeles where he tended goal for parts of 4 seasons. Rollie finished his career with brief stays in New Jersey and Montreal in the early 1990’s. Rollie was a 2nd Team NHL All Star in 1982-83, the year that saw him share the Jennings Trophy with Billy Smith and finish runner up for the Vezina.

The game wear on this size 54 Goalie cut sweater is on the lighter side, consistent with pre-season and consists of stick and puck marks and inner pilling. Rollie currently serves as goaltending coach of the Devils.
