1990-91 Mike Modano Minnesota North Stars Game Worn Jersey 2nd NHL Season The Terrence Murphy Collection Joe Murphy Letter
Lot #10

This fresh to the hobby example comes directly from the personal collection of longtime New York Islanders employee Terrence Murphy. Terry worked for the New York Islanders from 1983 through 1992, beginning as their stick boy until being promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager in 1988. A letter of provenance signed by Mr. Murphy’s son will accompany your purchase. These exciting items are being offered to the hobby for the first time via the Fall 2020 Auction, exclusively at GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET.

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Mike Modano during the 1990-91 NHL season, his sophomore season. The Minnesota North Stars selected Modano with the 1st overall pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. He instantly became the face of the Minnesota/Dallas franchise for the next 20 years while compiling Hall of Fame statistics. After playing for a lone season with the Detroit Red Wings in 2010-11, Mike announced his retirement from the sport. During his illustrious career, Modano netted 561 goals and added 813 assists for a career points total of 1374. Mike played in 8 NHL All Star games, was a 2nd Team NHL All Star in 2000 and has represented Team USA in numerous international competitions including a Canada Cup, 2 World Cups and 3 Olympics. The mantel was finally made complete when Mike captured the 1999 Stanley Cup with Dallas. Mike is the Stars franchise leader in games played, goals, assists and points among many other categories, and led them to the Stanley Cup Finals on three different occasions. Modano ranks as the NHL’s highest scoring US born player, both in the regular season and the playoffs. This recent inductee into the USA Hockey Hall of Fame also gained induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame on his first year of eligibility as part of the Class of 2014.

The game wear on this size 54 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, pilling at the sleeve cuffs, inner pilling and some nice team-sewn repair work. The 1990-91 season was a special one in Minnesota as it saw the North Stars trek all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals. Modano wore this sweater during that magical season at just 20 years of age as he began to emerge into one of the NHL’s premier talents. His 28-goal regular season was followed up by 20 points in 23 postseason games as Minnesota fell just shy of Stanley Cup glory. A fantastic fresh to the hobby example that was worn by a then 20-year old future Hall of Famer during his 2nd NHL season and comes directly from the personal collection of Terrence Murphy, choice!
