Mullen, who grew up in New York’s tough Hell’s Kitchen, is the only U.S. born player to have scored 500 NHL goals. He is a member of the 1000-point club as well as the Hockey Hall of Fame.

He owns a Lester Patrick trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States, (2) Lady Byng trophies for the combination of sportsmanship and high ability as well as (3) Stanley Cups championships, including 2 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Mullen represented Team USA in 3 different Canada Cup games. The Chicago Black Hawks, host of the 1991 NHL All Star game, lodged a complaint with the league and the league ruled that the Pens were no longer allowed to wear the All Star game patches on their game jerseys. This caused the Penguins to place thiis set of gamers into pre-mature retirement.
