Description
1990-91 Joe Kocur Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey
Lot #49
This road red knit gamer by CCM and Eastside was worn by Joe Kocur during the 1990-91 NHL season. The Detroit Red Wings selected Kocur in the 5th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Kocur made his debut with Detroit during the 1984-85 season, playing an abbreviated 17 game schedule. In 1985-86, Joe dressed for only 59 games, but made the league take notice as he racked up a career best 377 PIMS! The very next season, Joe toned things down a bit compiling ‘only’ 276 PIMS. And on it went; during his first 7 seasons in the Motor City he continued to terrorize the league alongside his Bash Brother teammate Bob Probert. In 1991, Kocur was dealt to the Rangers where he would spend his next 5 years. He did temper the bad boy act a bit on Broadway and was part of the Rangers Stanley Cup winning team in 1994. After New York it was off to Vancouver for 7 games and then back to Detroit where Joe played his final 3 seasons. In 821 career games over 15 seasons, Kocur racked up 2519 PIMS, placing him top-20 all-time. He will long be remembered as one of the fiercest fighters of his generation.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fight abuse with stitch pops and collar separation and inner pilling. A beautiful bold black sharpie signature in Kocur’s own hand resides on the back player number. Kocur appeared in 52 games for Detroit and racked up a most impressive 253 PIMS while wearing this gamer prior to being dealt to the Rangers in the spring of 1991. A nice example that sports the coveted letter of honor and hails from the end of Kocur’s original stint in Hockeytown.
