1989 Bobby Smith NHL All Star Game Worn Jersey – “40th NHL All Star Game”
Lot #78

This black air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Bobby Smith during the 1989 NHL All Star Game in Edmonton, Alberta. The Minnesota North Stars selected Smith with the 1st overall pick in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. Smith began his NHL career in 1978-79 with the North Stars and played for the franchise for parts of 9 seasons that encompassed the beginning and end of his illustrious career. In between, Bobby spent parts of 7 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens where he won the only Stanley Cup of his career in four separate trips to the Cup Finals. Smith was a 4-time NHL All Star who also captured the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year in 1979. In 1077 games played, Bobby tallied 357 goals and 1036 points. Bobby also had the good fortune to partake in 184 playoff games during which time he racked up a most impressive 160 points.

Sewn to the right shoulder of this gamer is the Edmonton, Alberta 40th NHL All Star Game patch. The game wear on this size 52 sweater ranks better than most All Star gamers, and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns and inner pilling. The 40th NHL Classic was Bobby’s first and only NHL All Star Game that saw him represent the Montreal Canadiens. The 1988-89 season saw Smith put forth his last great year, lighting the lamp 32 times and adding 51 assists for 83 points as he helped lead the Canadiens all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals.
