This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was first worn by Yvon Corriveau before being worn by Steve Maltais during the 1989-90 NHL season. The Washington Capitals selected Corriveau in the 1st round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. Corriveau made his NHL debut in 1985-86 with the Capitals where he played for parts of 5 seasons before joining the Hartford Whalers during the 1989-90 campaign. Yvon spent most of the next three years with the Whalers, other than a brief stint with the San Jose Sharks in 1992-93. Following his 9-year NHL career, Corriveau spent time in the IHL and in Europe, finally retiring in 2005.
The Washington Capitals selected Maltais in the 3rd round of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. This winger made his NHL debut with the Capitals in 1989-90, playing in 8 games. He played another 7 games for Washington the following season before joining the Minnesota North Stars in 1991-92. Maltais wrapped up his NHL career with a season in Tampa Bay during their inaugural year, a stint with the Red Wings and lastly a year with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In between Steve’s constant call-ups, he made a name for himself in the minor leagues and became one of the Chicago Wolves all-time franchise greats.
The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work. Removed from the upper verso is the nameplate that was lost to history. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Maltais wearing this exact jersey during the 1989-90 season, his rookie year. A well-worn vintage sweater and photo matched to Maltais wearing the jersey during his 8-game rookie NHL call-up.
