Lot #198

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers, tough guys and instigators to the hobby exclusively thru our Spring 2019 Auction. These 10 NHL, WHA and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, most which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Steve Dykstra during the 1989-90 NHL season. After just one season of junior hockey in the WHL, this Edmonton native made his professional debut with the Rochester Americans in 1982-83. This tough guy spent parts of 5 seasons with the Amerks while making his NHL debut with the Buffalo Sabres during that span. Steve played for the Sabres for parts of three seasons before joining the Edmonton Oilers during the 1987-88 season. Dykstra appeared in 15 games with the Oilers during the 2nd half of the year and then watched as Gretzky and the gang went on to win their 4th Stanley Cup later that spring. Dykstra spent the 1988-89 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and then wrapped up his NHL career with the Hartford Whalers in 1989-90. Dykstra’s minor pro career continued before he retired from the sport in 1998. Dykstra’s single season career best NHL PIMS total came in 1986-87 when he amassed 179 PIMS in just 37 games.

The game wear on this size 52 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, washed out bloodstains and inner pilling. This tough guy wrapped up his NHL career with a 9-game stint with the Hartford Whalers in 1989-90, wearing this jersey on home ice.
