Description
1989-90 Sam St. Laurent Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey
Lot #376
This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Sam St. Laurent during the 1989-90 NHL season, his last in the NHL. After spending about a decade guarding the pipes between the QMJHL, IHL and AHL, St. Laurent began his NHL career with the New Jersey Devils in 1985-86. He would spend the next 4 seasons between the pipes in Hockeytown before finishing his playing career with a couple of seasons for Binghamton in the AHL. St. Laurent was a decorated goalie in the minors, winning the AHL’s Baz Bastien Memorial Award, the Hap Holmes Memorial Award and the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy.

This gamer has been customized with panels sewn into the sides to widen the body. The game wear on this sweater is on the lighter side consisting of some stick and puck marks, a heavily salted fight strap along with pulls and pilling both inside and out. The screen-capture shown above perfectly displays the left side panel that was custom sewn in by the team and is quite likely the same jersey being offered up for bid here today. St. Laurent played in only 14 games in this his final NHL season, leaving us to speculate that this was probably his last NHL gamer. A nice example of a player whose gamers don’t often surface in the hobby.
