1989-90 Mike Peluso Indianapolis Ice Game Worn Jersey - Rookie
Lot #581
This road black air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Mike Peluso during the 1989-90 IHL season, his rookie year. Peluso is one of the NHL’s all-time legendary heavyweights whose career ended prematurely after he suffered a spinal cord injury in 1998. He did play in parts of 9 NHL seasons that spanned 458 games, during which time he amassed an incredible 1951 PIMS! His single season career best total came in the 1991-92 season with the Chicago Blackhawks. In 63 games during the 1991-92 season, Peluso accumulated a mind-boggling 408 PIMS, wow! Despite his short career, Peluso made a number of deep playoff runs. He went to the Cup Finals with the Blackhawks in 1991-92, made another memorable deep run to game 7 of the Conference Finals with the Devils in 1993-94 and walked away with his name forever engraved on the Stanley Cup in 1994-95 as a member of the Devils. While in New Jersey, Peluso was part of the Crash Line and became a beloved fan favorite, as he had in each of the cities he represented during his career.

Peluso spent 3 games with the Hawks in 1989-90 and spent the remaining 75 with the Indianapolis Ice, their IHL affiliate. The game wear on this rookie sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, loads of washed out bloodstains, heavy inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work, a couple of handfuls all told. Awesome fight abuse is readily evident with stitch pops encircling the entire collar, a tear and repair work to the front neckline, a decimated fight strap that long ago gave way to heavy salt and rust as well as all of the blood that is found throughout the jersey! The back player number houses a beautiful autograph in Peluso’s hand that reads, “Best wishes your friend Mike Peluso”. What an incredible offering, and a certain grail for the committed heavyweight fight collector who has yet to land a great gamer worn by this legendary pugilist. Certainly one of the finest Peluso’s in the hobby, choice!
