Description
1989-90 Mike Gartner Minnesota North Stars Game Worn Jersey
Lot #6
This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Mike Gartner during the 1989-90 NHL season. The Washington Capitals selected Gartner with the 4th overall selection in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. After a year with the WHA’s Cincinnati Stingers, Mike made his NHL debut in 1979-80 with the Capitals. Gartner spent the first 10 years of his NHL career with Washington where he is considered among the greatest Capitals to ever wear the team colors. During his 19-year NHL career, Gartner racked up incredible numbers while representing the Capitals, North Stars, Rangers, Maple Leafs and Coyotes. Mike tallied 708 Goals and 1335 Points and stands as one of a handful of players ever to eclipse 700 career goals, standing among the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito, Brett Hull, Jaromir Jagr and Alex Ovechkin. To his credit are 15 different 30-Goal seasons, 8 of them being 40 or better including one 50-goal campaign. Mike was a 7-time NHL All Star who was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame with the class of 2012.

This jersey has been custom shortened for Gartner by the team. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Gartner was dealt to the Rangers at the deadline in 1990, leaving his final tally of games played in a North Stars uniform at 80 over the course of two partial seasons. The 1989-90 campaign with Minnesota saw Mike light the lamp 34 times and add 36 assists for 70 points in 67 games played. Gartner’s North Stars jerseys are in short supply for obvious reasons and this well-worn customized example by the 700-Goal scorer would make a great addition to any Hall of Fame collection, choice!
