Description
1989-90 Larry Murphy Minnesota North Stars Game Worn Jersey - Retired Number
Lot #31
This road green air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Larry Murphy during the 1989-90 NHL season. Murphy, who was the 4th overall selection in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft and was later inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004 in his first year of eligibility, spent 21 seasons on NHL ice. During that time he captured 4 Stanley Cups, 2 each with Pittsburgh and Detroit. He ranks in the top 15 on the NHL’s all-time career assists list. He also ranks 5th on the all-time scoring list for defensemen with over 1200 points. He is 2nd in career NHL games played trailing only Gordie Howe. Larry tallied double-digit goals in an impressive 16 different seasons. His 150+ career playoff points rank him in the top 20 all-time. Murph performed at an elite level for 2 decades, earning 2nd team All Star selections in the 1980’s and 90’s.

Murphy joined the North Stars at the deadline in 1988-89 and remained in Minnesota until midway thru the 1990-91 season, when he was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Offered here is Larry’s road sweater from his only full year with the North Stars. The game wear on this striking road green offering is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, an un-repaired skate slice, pulls, washed out bloodstains, heavy inner pilling, a heavily tarnished fight strap and a handful of team-sewn repairs. Worthy of mention is that this is a retired number, done so in honor of Bill Goldsworthy in February of 1992. Murphy North Stars gamers have been pretty tough to find through the years, thanks in part to his short tenure in Minnesota.
