1989-90 Joe Sakic Quebec Nordiques Game Worn Jersey - 2nd NHL Season - 1st 100-Point Season - 1st Captainís Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #18

This road blue knit gamer by CCM was worn by Joe Sakic during the 1989-90 NHL season, his sophomore year. The Quebec Nordiques selected Sakic in the 1st round of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. Burnaby Joe spent all 20 of his NHL seasons playing for the same franchise, the first 8 in Quebec and the final 12 in Colorado. Sakic will go down as the greatest player in franchise history, having compiled staggering career statistics, which place him among the game’s all-time elite. Joe scored 625 goals, 1016 assists and 1641 career points, placing him top 10 in the history of the sport. His playoff totals are no less impressive, having produced better than a point per game with nearly 200 for his career, placing him in rare company. Joe’s hardware includes the Lester B. Pearson award as the NHL’s outstanding player, the Lady Byng trophy for the combination of sportsmanship and high ability, the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP and the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP. He was also the winner of an Olympic Gold Medal in addition to 2 Stanley Cup rings. Sakic was three-times a 1st Team NHL All Star and played in 12 NHL All Star Games as well as the 1996 and 2004 World Cups of Hockey and the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Olympics for Team Canada. Spending an entire career as part of one franchise is a rarity in today’s era and forever earns him the title of “The Franchise”. Sakic is already considered among the all-time Hall of Fame greats, sadly we can no longer watch him perform his artistry.

Proudly affixed to the left breast of this gamer are the remnants of the Captain’s “C” and alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired holes, a salted fight strap, collar pilling and fine inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Sakic wearing this exact jersey during the 1989-90 season. On the crest is a beautiful black sharpie signature in Sakic’s own hand. Some peeling and cracking is evident and are depicted in the photos above. Joe became a true superstar during his sophomore season while wearing this sweater. He played in all 80 games, lighting the lamp 39 times and adding 63 assists for 102 points, his first of 10 appearances on the NHL’s scoring leader board. This was also the first Captain’s jersey of Sakic’s Hall of Fame career. A terrific photo matched offering complete with the letter of honor that was donned by this Hall of Famer during his 2nd NHL season, choice!
