1989-90 Jim Kyte Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #304
GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of vintage enforcers jerseys to the hobby exclusively thru our Spring 2017 Auction. These 16 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players, some that are being offered at auction for the first time!

This road black knit gamer by CCM was worn by Jim Kyte during the 1989-90 NHL season. The Winnipeg Jets selected Kyte in the 1st round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Kyte, who was the first legally deaf player in NHL history, stood 6’ 5” tall and roamed the blueline while adeptly clearing creases and dropping the gloves over the course of 13 seasons. In 598 career games, he accumulated 1342 PIMS, earning triple digit totals nearly every year he played. The majority of Kyte’s career was spent in Winnipeg where he played for 7 seasons before stops in Pittsburgh, Calgary, Ottawa and San Jose.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops and fine inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Kyte wearing this exact jersey during the 1989-90 season. Of importance to the Penguins collectors is the gold toe, a short-lived anomaly in Pittsburgh Penguins jersey lure. The 1989-90 season was Jim’s first as well as his only full season with Pittsburgh. He played in 59 games and recorded a modest 125 PIMS. He was dealt to Calgary the following year after playing just a single game and as such his Penguins sweaters have been a tough get. A nice photo matched offering of this coveted gold toe’d variety.
