1989-90 Jari Kurri Edmonton Oilers Game Worn Jersey - Stanley Cup Season - All Star Season - Photo Match - Team Letter
Lot #11
This road blue air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Jari Kurri during the 1989-90 Stanley Cup winning season. It’s hard to believe that the first-born Hall of Famer from Finland lasted until the 4th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. It was in that moment that the Oilers found the perfect compliment to play alongside Wayne Gretzky for the better part of the next decade. Kurri’s Hall of Fame career spanned 17 NHL seasons. The first 10 of those were spent in Edmonton where Jari went to 6 Stanley Cup Finals and walked away with 5 Stanley Cup rings. So great was his legacy in Edmonton, where he is 2nd in all-time points for an Oiler behind only Wayne Gretzky, that his number 17 was retired by the team.

Kurri would eventually follow Gretzky to Los Angeles where the tandem was again found playing for Lord Stanley’s Cup in 1993. Jari spent 5 years in Los Angeles before a deadline deal in 1996 reunited him with former teammate Mark Messier in New York. He went on to finish his career with single seasons in Anaheim and Colorado.

In 1251 career regular season games, Kurri netted 601 goals and added 797 assists for a total of 1398 points. Kurri ranks 3rd on the all-time playoff scoring list with 233 points, trailing only his Edmonton teammates, Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier. Kurri won the 1985 Lady Byng Trophy and was five times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star while also partaking in 8 NHL All Star Games. On the international stage, Kurri played in the 1980 and 1998 Olympics, the 1981, 1987 and 1991 Canada Cups, Rendezvous ’87, numerous World Championships and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. To say he is revered in his native Finland would be an understatement, as he continues to support the country’s hockey programs to this day.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. This jersey has been customized with sleeve extensions added by the team. Sewn to the right shoulder is a rectangular patch of orange air-knit material that covers the Edmonton Oilers 10-year anniversary patch. Penned in the collar in black sharpie is “89-90/1”. The game wear on this 2nd set size 54 sweater is tremendous and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and trauma, material pulls, stitch pops, a salted fight strap, inner pilling and a couple of team-sewn repairs. Shown above are some beautiful photo matches of Kurri wearing this exact jersey during the 1989-90 season. Kurri netted 33 goals and added 60 assists for 93 points in 78 games played while wearing this sweater during road games in the second half of the championship season. A tremendous well-worn photo matched offering complete with the coveted letter of honor and hailing from the last Stanley Cup winning season of the Oilers dynasty, choice! This jersey will be accompanied by an Oilers team letter.
