1989-90 Greg Smyth Halifax Citadels Game Worn Jersey
Lot #708

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers and tough guys to the hobby exclusively thru our Fall 2017 Auction. These 14 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, some which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Greg Smyth during the 1989-90 AHL season. The Philadelphia Flyers selected Smyth in the 2nd round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Smyth made his NHL debut with the Flyers in 1986-87. Over the course of a 10-year NHL career, this enforcer represented Philadelphia, Quebec, Calgary, Florida, Toronto and Chicago. In between his time in the NHL, Smyth carved a legendary minor pro career that saw him compile several 300+ PIMS seasons. In 228 NHL games played, Smyth racked up 783 PIMS, many coming in fights with the best heavyweights of the era.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this goalie cut sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, washed out bloodstains, a stitch popped front collar and heavy inner pilling. The nameplate has been removed from the verso and lost to history. The Citadels have long been considered one of the toughest minor league jerseys for hobbyists to obtain and this is the first example that we’ve ever had the pleasure to bring to Auction. This jersey is in remarkable condition, features terrific game use and a letter of honor and was worn by this veteran NHL pugilist while playing for the Quebec Nordiques minor league affiliate!
