Description
1989-90 Garry Galley Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Jersey – “1990 Stanley Cup Finals”
Lot #35

This road black air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Garry Galley during the 1989-90 NHL season. The Los Angeles Kings selected Galley in the 5th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. After playing his college hockey at Bowling Green State University, Galley made his NHL debut in 1984-85 with the Kings. This Montreal born defenseman spent 17 seasons in the NHL where he represented Los Angeles, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, Buffalo and the Islanders. Galley was a two-time NHL All Star, representing the Bruins and Flyers in the annual classic.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 1990 Stanley Cup patch. The game wear on this size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, heavy pilling at the sleeve cuffs, inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. The 1989-90 playoffs saw the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in three seasons, only to fall to the Edmonton Oilers as they had two years prior. Galley played in 21 post season games, contributing three goals and an impressive 34 PIMS during that post season run, while wearing this sweater during road contests. The NHL began their Stanley Cup Finals patch program in 1989. These early examples of this now 33-year longstanding tradition have and will remain in high demand among collectors of game worn jerseys. A well-worn Stanley Cup Finals patched example, worn by this two-time NHL All Star during the height of the Bourque and Neely era in Boston.
