1989-90 Craig Janney Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Jersey – “1990 Stanley Cup Finals” – Photo Match
Lot #23

This road black air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Craig Janney during the 1989-90 NHL season and through the Stanley Cup Finals. The Boston Bruins selected Janney in the 1st round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. After spending time at Boston College and with the U.S. National Team, this Hartford, CT native made his NHL debut in 1987-88 with the Bruins. Craig would spend parts of five seasons in Boston where he went to two Stanley Cup Finals in his first three years in the league while centering Cam Neely. Janney was dealt to the St. Louis Blues during the 1991-92 season in exchange for Adam Oates and then spent parts of four years in St. Louis setting up Brett Hull. He would finish his career with stints in San Jose, Winnipeg, Phoenix, Tampa Bay and the Islanders. In 760 games played, Janney scored 751 points over the course of his 12-year NHL career. His career best season came with the Blues in 1992-93, when he assisted on 82 goals and tallied 106 points. Janney represented Team USA in the World Championships, the 1988 Olympics and the 1991 Canada Cup.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. Sewn to the right breast is the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals patch. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, material pulls and fine inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Janney wearing this exact jersey during the 1989-90 season, prior to the addition of the Stanley Cup Finals patch. The 1989-90 playoffs saw the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the 2nd time in three seasons, only to fall to the Edmonton Oilers as they had two years prior. Janney contributed an impressive 19 assists and 22 points in 18 games played during that post season run, while wearing this sweater during road contests. The NHL began their Stanley Cup Finals patch program in 1989, thus these examples were worn during the NHL’s 2nd season of this now longstanding tradition. Early Stanley Cup Finals patched gamers have and will remain in high demand among collectors of game worn jerseys. A beautiful patched and photo matched example, complete with the coveted letter of honor hailing from the height of the Bourque and Neely era in Boston.
