This home white knit gamer by CCM and Century Sports was worn by Zarley Zalapski during the 1988-89 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Zalapski with the 4th overall selection in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. He began his NHL career in 1987-88 with Pittsburgh and played there for 4 seasons before joining the Hartford Whalers. Following parts of 4 more years in Hartford, ZZ next spent a handful of seasons with the Calgary Flames before serving brief stints in Montreal and Philadelphia. All told Zarley spent a dozen seasons roaming the NHL bluelines. Following his NHL days, Zarley spent some time in the IHL before heading to Europe where he played for a decade, mostly in the Swiss B league.
The game wear on this all sewn on rookie sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust, stitch pops, inner pilling and a couple dozen team-sewn repairs! Zalapski wore this sweater during his official rookie season and earned 1st Team NHL All-Rookie honors thanks to scoring 12 goals and 45 points in 58 games played.
