1988-89 Wayne Van Dorp Saginaw Hawks Game Worn Jersey
Lot #349

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers and tough guys to the hobby exclusively thru our Spring 2018 Auction. These 11 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, most which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Wayne Van Dorp during the 1988-89 IHL season. This Burnaby, BC native was an enforcer that made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers in 1986-87 and won a Stanley Cup that spring as a rookie. He also suited up for the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Quebec Nordiques over the course of his 6-year NHL career, accumulating 565 PIMS in 125 games played! Van Dorp registered a single season best of 303 PIMS in 61 games played for the Chicago Blackhawks in 1989-90, placing 5th on the NHL leader board in a partial season! Van Dorp also put together an impressive minor league resume, playing mainly in the AHL with Rochester, Nova Scotia and Halifax but also spending time in the IHL with Saginaw and Milwaukee and in the ACHL at the beginning of his career with the Erie Golden Blades. In 195 minor league games played, this enforcer amassed 912 PIMS!

The game wear on this sweater is tremendous and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, runs, heavy inner pilling and major team-sewn repair work, some 30 in all! Fight abuse is readily evident with a stitch popped collar, a torn and vented wrist cuff and washed out bloodstains. A nameplate change is also worthy of mention as this jersey was given to Van Dorp upon his arrival to the Hawks in 1988-89. A hammered enforcer’s gamer nearly 20-years removed from hobby circulation hailing from the successful but brief two-year existence of the Saginaw Hawks!
