1988-89 Trent Kaese Buffalo Sabres Game Worn Jersey – Rookie - Retired Number – Hasek 39
Lot #76

This road blue knit gamer by CCM was worn by Trent Kaese during the 1988-89 NHL season, his rookie year. The Buffalo Sabres selected Kaese in the 8th round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. After playing his junior hockey alongside Hall of Fame teammate Joe Sakic in the WHL, Kaese made his professional debut in the IHL in 1986-87. Trent played minor pro for a total of five seasons while also venturing to Europe where he became a star in England over the course of his five-year stay.

Kaese played in a single NHL game during his career. After The Buffalo Sabres suffered injuries to several players including Rick Vaive, Ray Sheppard, Kevin Maguire and Jeff Parker, they called up Kaese from Rochester on March 25, 1989. He flew into Quebec City for the Sabres game against the Nordiques and was handed the now retired #39 to wear for his only NHL game. During the contest, Kaese led the Sabres in shots on goal with 5 but failed to light the lamp. The game wear on this sweater is on the lighter side as would be expected with stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer and inner pilling evident. A nice example from this winger’s lone NHL game that features Dominik Hasek’s retired #39.
