1988-89 Shawn "The Barbarian" Cronin Baltimore Skipjacks Game Worn Jersey
Lot #711

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers and tough guys to the hobby exclusively thru our Fall 2017 Auction. These 14 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, some which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This road red air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Shawn “The Barbarian” Cronin during the 1988-89 AHL season. Cronin, a native of Flushing, MI played 4 seasons of college hockey at the University of Illinois-Chicago before jumping directly into the pro-ranks as an undrafted enforcer. Cronin spent 3 seasons in the minors before he made his NHL debut in 1988-89 with the Washington Capitals. All told, Cronin spent 7 seasons in the NHL where he represented the Capitals, Winnipeg Jets, Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks. Incidentally, Cronin scored the first playoff goal in San Jose Sharks franchise history, one of only 4 goals that he scored in his NHL career, regular season and playoffs combined. In 292 games played “The Barbarian” accumulated 877 PIMS.

This jersey has been heavily customized with the entirety of both arms being opened up and Velcro inserts being added from armpit to wrist on each. The intermittent addition of white hockey tape strips to the Velcro was applied to make sure that the sleeves would easily open up when the fists started flying! Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, fight abuse and trauma, excessive wear to the fight strap, heavy inner pilling and more than a half-dozen team-sewn repairs. A fantastic well-worn offering complete with letter of honor and amazing customizations that would be an instant highlight in any collection of enforcers.
