1988-89 Mike Gartner Minnesota North Stars Game Worn Jersey - 400th Goal - Photo Match
Lot #31

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM and Team Choice was worn by Mike Gartner during the 1988-89 NHL season. The Washington Capitals selected Gartner with the 4th overall selection in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. After a year with the WHA’s Cincinnati Stingers, Mike made his NHL debut with the Capitals in 1979-80. Gartner spent the first 10 years of his NHL career with the Capitals and is considered among the greatest Capitals to ever wear the team colors. During his 19-year NHL career, Gartner racked up incredible numbers while representing the Caps, North Stars, Rangers, Maple Leafs and Coyotes. His Hall of Fame numbers are simply staggering with in excess of 700 career goals and 1300 career points to his credit. He is one of a handful of players ever to eclipse 700 career goals, standing among the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito, Brett Hull and Jaromir Jagr. Mike was consistently good over a very long period of time, which was rather uncommon during Mike’s era playing this grueling sport. He amassed 15 different 30-goal seasons with 8 of them being 40 or better including one 50-goal campaign. He proudly represented his team in 7 different NHL All Star contests. Gartner also represented Team Canada in the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cups, two classic series. He was a true credit to the sport and is a most deserving member of Hockey’s Hall of Fame.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and a team-sewn repair. Shown above are some beautiful photo matches of Gartner wearing this exact jersey during the 1988-89 season. Gartner arrived in Minnesota on March 7, 1989, right at the trade deadline in exchange for fellow Hall of Famer Dino Ciccarelli. Mike played in 13 games for the North Stars in 1988-89, scoring 7 goals and adding 7 assists for 14 points while wearing this jersey on home ice. Gartner arrived in Minnesota with 397 career goals and on March 16th merely 9 days after joining the club, earned a standing ovation at the Met as he scored his 400th career goal in front of his new hometown fans while wearing this jersey. A tremendous photo matched offering of an important milestone event by this NHL Hall of Famer, choice!
