1988-89 Mark Recchi Penguins Home & Road Game Worn Jerseys - Rookie
Lot #9

These home and road knit gamers by CCM were worn by Mark Recchi during the 1988-89 NHL season, his rookie year. Recchi began his NHL career in 1988-89 as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. It wouldn’t be long before he was teaming on a line with Mario and the 1991 Stanley Cup would soon be in tow. At the trading deadline of the following season, as the Pens were embarking on their 2nd Stanley Cup run, Rex was dealt to the Flyers in exchange for Rick Tocchet.

Mark would represent Philadelphia for parts of 4 seasons before heading to the Montreal Canadiens. Following 5 years in Canada, Recchi returned to Philly where he toiled for another 6 seasons. His next stop was back to where it all began, the Pittsburgh Penguins. However a deadline deal in 2006 proved fruitful for the veteran winger, as he captured his 2nd Stanley Cup while on loan to the Carolina Hurricanes. Since leaving the Pens in 2007-08, Rex has played for the Thrashers, Lightning and Bruins. Thru the end of the 2009-10 season, in a career that has thus far spanned nearly 1600 games, Recchi has tallied nearly 1500 points with 563 goals. He is in the top-10 all time in NHL games played, and could break the top 5 by season’s end. He has played in 7 NHL All Star games and was named 2nd Team NHL All Star at right wing in 1992. A spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame no doubt awaits this 50-goal sniper.

Offered here are Recchi’s home and road rookie jerseys. Mark dressed for only 15 games as a rookie and therefore the game use on these sweaters is on the light side. There are stick marks and inner pilling on both, while the road example also has some board burns and board paint transfer. Also worthy of mention are the Ganchar nameplates that lie beneath the Recchi nameplates. Ganchar played 3 games during the 1988-89 season prior to Recchi’s arrival. This is a tremendous opportunity to acquire not one, but both of Recchi’s rookie sweaters.
