1988-89 Kevin Lowe Edmonton Oilers Game Worn Jersey - "Edmonton Oilers 10-year Anniversary" - Photo Match - Video Match - Team Letter
Lot #37

This blue heavy mesh gamer by Nike was worn by Kevin Lowe during the 1988-89 NHL season. Lowe was the Edmonton Oilers 1st round draft selection in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. He began his NHL career as a baby-faced 20-year-old as the Oilers took to the NHL ice for the very first time. In fact it was Lowe who scored the 1st NHL goal in Oilers franchise history. Lowe grew up alongside Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Fuhr, Kurri & Anderson and would go on to provide solid leadership and stellar two way play from the position of defense as he helped lead the Oilers to 5 Stanley Cups in 7 seasons, as they took their place among hockey’s greatest dynasties.

Next up for Kevin, after 13-years of service in Edmonton, was a 4-year stay on Broadway. In Kevin’s 2nd season with the Rangers, he and his former Oilers brethren, helped break one of sports longest droughts as the Broadway Blueshirts captured the 1994 Stanley Cup, their 1st in 54-years. Kevin returned home to Edmonton in 1996-97 and, after 7 games in 1997-98, he retired from the sport. Lowe captured 6 Stanley Cups during his 19-year NHL career that spanned 1254 regular season games and another 214 in the playoffs. He won the 1989-90 King Clancy Memorial Trophy as well as the 1990 Bud Man of the Year Award. Despite not having the offensive statistics of many of his peers, Kevin was looked upon as one of the leagues best defenseman, which was affirmed by his 7 NHL All Star game appearances. Lowe also represented Team Canada in the 1984 Canada Cup and the 1982 World Championships.

Lowe’s post playing days began with him taking a position as assistant coach the season following his retirement. One year later, Kevin took over as the Oilers head coach, a position he held for the 1999-00 season. In June of 2000, as the Oilers season came to a close, Kevin was named the Oilers General Manager, a position he held until recently when he was promoted to President of Hockey Operations. It comes as no surprise that Lowe is following in the footsteps of his former coach, Hall of Famer Glen Sather.

This amazing jersey originally hails from the collection of former Oilers owner Peter Pocklington. Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. Sewn to the right shoulder is the Edmonton Oilers 10-year anniversary patch. The game wear on this vintage Nike sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, numerous board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust, areas of heavy pilling and more than a dozen team-sewn repairs! Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Lowe wearing this exact jersey during the 1988-89 NHL season. Also shown above are some video matches of Lowe wearing this exact jersey during the 1988-89 season. A stunning photo matched gamer, complete with a letter of honor and the Oilers 10-year anniversary patch, choice! This jersey will be accompanied by an Oilers team letter.
