Description
1988-89 Jay Caufield Penguins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #149

This home white knit gamer by CCM and Century Sports was worn by Jay Caufield during the 1988-89 NHL season. Caufield, a Philadelphia native, broke onto the scene with the Rangers in 1986-87. A 1-game stint in Minnesota preceeded his time with the Penguins which began during the 1988-89 season and lasted 5 years which included the Penguins 2 Stanley Cups in the early 1990’s. This 6’ 4” defenseman played with a hard edge as evidenced by his 759 PIMs in 208 career games. His highest individual total of 285 PIMS came in 58 games while wearing this very sweater during the 1988-89 season.

On the front crest is a black sharpie autograph in Caufield’s own hand. The back player number features another autograph by Jay in gold sharpie, allowing the buyer to choose on which side he prefers to display the jersey. The player name and numbers remain in flawless condition, adding to the appeal of this 2 decade old sweater. A good amount of bloodstains exist on the front, typical for a pugilists’ gamer. Other game wear exists in the form of stick marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work on the sleeves.
