Description
1988-89 Gordie Roberts St. Louis Blues Game Worn Jersey - "8" - "DK"
Lot #116
This road blue air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Gordie Roberts during the 1988-89 NHL season. Roberts began his professional career in the WHA with the New England Whalers in 1975-76. After 4 WHA seasons he merged with the club and suited up for the Hartford Whalers for parts of 2 years in the NHL. Gordie was dealt to the Minnesota North Stars during the 1980-81 season and took part in their Stanley Cup Finals run later that Spring. He would spend parts of 8 seasons with the North Stars, followed by an 11-game stint in Philadelphia in 1987-88. Later that year Roberts was dealt to the Blues where he remained for parts of 4 years. A trade in 1990-91 sent Roberts to Pittsburgh where he celebrated the Stanley Cup each of the next two seasons. Gordie’s final 2 years in the NHL were spent with the Boston Bruins. All told this veteran spent 19 seasons and better than 1400 regular season games patrolling the WHA and NHL bluelines, during which time he amassed better than 2000 PIMS.

Sewn to the left shoulder of this gamer is the Barclay Plager ‘8’ patch. Sewn to the right shoulder is the Dan Kelly ‘DK’ patch. The Blues oBnly wore this 2-patch combination for the last couple of months of the 1988-89 season. They began the year wearing the Barclay Plager patch in honor of the passing of their legendary defenceman. Later that year, following the passing of Hall of Fame broadcaster Dan Kelly in February of 1989, they added the Dan Kelly Shamrock patch to their gamers. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and skate slices, fine inner pilling, a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust along with a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. A beautiful well worn gamer that features the desirable 2-patch combo that existed on the St. Louis gamers for a mere couple of months at the end of the 1988-89 campaign.
