Description
1988-89 Gilles Thibaudeau Montreal Canadiens Game Worn Jersey – “1989 Stanley Cup Finals” – Ken Dryden Retired Number
Lot #24
This road red knit gamer by CCM was worn by Gilles Thibaudeau during the 1988-89 NHL season. This Montreal native made his NHL debut in 1986-87 with the Canadiens where he played for three seasons. Thibaudeau went on to represent the Islanders and Maple Leafs over the course of his five-year NHL career. Gilles played for the Canadian National Team in 1994 and spent 8 seasons playing in Europe where he wrapped up his playing career.

Sewn to the left shoulder of this gamer is the 1989 Stanley Cup Finals patch. This was the first year the NHL used a Stanley Cup Finals patch on their game jerseys. The game wear on this sweater is on the lighter side with a nice amount of inner pilling most worthy of mention. Thibaudeau appeared in 32 regular season games with Les Habitants during the 1988-89 campaign and did not make an official playoff appearance. A beautiful and tough to find example, complete with Ken Dryden’s retired #29 and hailing from the inaugural season for the NHL’s Stanley Cup Finals patch program, which is unbelievably now in its 34th season of existence.
