Description
1988-89 Frank Pietrangelo Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #98

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Frank Pietrangelo during the 1988-89 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Pietrangelo in the 4th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Pietrangelo broke in with the Penguins during the 1987-88 NHL season. He would remain with his original club into the 1991-92 season, when a deadline deal sent him to the Hartford Whalers where he would spend the remaining few years of his career. Pietrangelo is remembered fondly by Penguins faithful who recognized his contribution in helping the Pens win their first ever Stanley Cup title in 1990-91 as he won 4 games in that season’s playoffs.

The sleeves on this gamer have been opened up from the wrists towards the elbows to allow more room for Pietrangelo’s goalie equipment. The game wear on this 1st set sweater is solid and consists of stick and puck marks, goal post paint transfer, washed out blood and sweat stains and inner pilling. The numbers were originally affixed to the shoulders and were moved to the sleeves, consistent with the Penguins change in placement from the prior season. A nice early career offering of this fan favorite.
