This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Curt Giles during the 1988-89 NHL season. The Minnesota North Stars selected Giles in the 4th round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. After graduating from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Giles began his NHL career with the North Stars in 1979-80. All told this rearguard would spend 14 seasons patrolling NHL blue lines, parts of 12 of them with Minnesota where he helped guide his teams to the Stanley Cup Finals in both 1981 and 1991. Giles was honored by his teammates in the late 1980’s by becoming the Team Captain, a title he cherished until leaving the North Stars after the 1991 march to the Stanley Cup Finals. Giles would also serve his country by suiting up for the Canadian National Team and then playing in the 1992 Olympics and earning a Silver Medal.
Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, a tarnished fight strap, fine inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. A terrific Captain’s jersey from the beginning of the era that saw Giles don the team’s letter of honor.
