Description
1988-89 Craig MacTavish Edmonton Oilers Game Worn Jersey – “10-year Anniversary – Team Letter
Lot #74

This home white mesh gamer by Nike was worn by Craig MacTavish during the 1988-89 NHL season. The Boston Bruins selected MacTavish in the 9th round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. MacTavish began his NHL career with the Bruins in 1979-80. He spent 5 years in Beantown before becoming a member of the Edmonton Oilers in 1985. Craig spent the next 9 seasons in Edmonton where he captured 3 Stanley Cups. A trade at the deadline in 1994 sent MacTavish to the New York Rangers where he joined a number of his former Edmonton teammates. A few months later Craig was parading down Broadway with the Stanley Cup number 4 in tow alongside Messier and the boys. Craig wrapped up his 1093 game NHL career with stops in Philadelphia and St. Louis. MacTavish was one of the better defensive forwards of his generation who excelled at killing penalties and shutting down the opposition. With a number of 20-goal seasons to his credit, Craig notched 213-goals and nearly 500-points during his career. He played in nearly 200 playoff contests and earned a spot on the 1996 NHL All Star Team.

Sewn to the right shoulder of this gamer is the Edmonton Oilers 10-year anniversary patch. The sleeves on this gamer have been custom shortened by the Oilers for MacTavish. The game wear on this size L sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, custom reinforcement to the fight strap, heavy inner pilling and nearly a dozen and a half team-sewn repairs. The Nike swoosh has been cut away from the back left side hem and a rectangular swatch of white mesh has been sewn in its place. A beautiful well-worn patched example that hails from the end of the Nike era in Edmonton. This jersey will be accompanied by an Oilers team letter.
