1988-89 Al Secord Philadelphia Flyers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #43
This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Al Secord during the 1988-89 NHL season. The Boston Bruins selected Secord in the 1st round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. Secord began his NHL career with the Bruins in 1978-79 and spent parts of 3 seasons with the club that drafted him before joining the Blackhawks in 1980-81. Al next spent 7 years in Chicago, parts of two with the Maple Leafs, a partial season in Philadelphia and one final year with the Hawks before announcing his retirement. Not many players in the history of the sport have possessed the combination of ability with a sheer mean streak like Secord. During his years with the Hawks, Secord had some staggering single season goal totals such as 54, 44 and 40. Triple digit PIMS totals were the norm with a single season career best of 303 coming in 1981-82. In fact, Secord is still the only player to net 40 goals and record 300 PIMS in a single season. Al played in 2 NHL All Star Games and netted 273 goals and amassed 2093 PIMS in 766 career regular season contests. The playoffs saw similar outputs from this power forward as Secord recorded 21 goals and 382 PIMS in 102 games of playoff action.

Secord joined the Philadelphia Flyers during the latter part of the 1988-89 season. He appeared in 20 regular season games and another 14 in the playoffs as the Flyers fell just shy of the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, fine inner pilling and a front collar that has begun to separate thanks to the hands of an angry opponent. A custom double skate lace fight strap has been crudely stitched with extra support to the rear player number. For the Secord fan, a Philadelphia gamer is as tough as any to come by based on Al’s short time in the City of Brotherly Love. This example would be a great addition to any collection of enforcers game worn jerseys, choice!
