A signed letter from Chris Chelios will accompany your purchase.

This white air-knit jersey by CCM was issued to Larry Robinson by Team Canada for use during the 1987 Canada Cup. The Montreal Canadiens selected Robinson in the 1st round of the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft. Robinson enjoyed a 20-year NHL career and spent the first 17 of those seasons with Montreal, where he won an incredible 7 Stanley Cups. Larry was the 1978 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP and also captured 2 Norris Trophies as the NHL’s best defenseman. Robinson was 6-times a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star on defense and was a regular participant in the NHL All Star Game throughout his 2-decade long career, playing in a total of 10 annual classics.

Larry also starred when the international spotlight was on, playing for Team Canada in 4 different Canada Cups, while also taking part in those memorable New Year’s Eve Super Series contests against the Soviets during the Cold War era. He is considered one of the game’s all-time greats and was so recognized in the now revered ‘The Hockey News’ book that ranked the 50 greatest players in NHL history. Larry was honored as the 24th greatest player in NHL history in that publication. Following his playing days, Robinson added to his trophy case as he won the Stanley Cup as the New Jersey Devils head coach in 2000. In 1384 games played, Larry scored 208 goals and added 750 assists for a total of 958 points. His remarkable career also saw Larry partake in 227 playoff games where he added another 144 points.

Sewn to the right breast of this size 54 sweater is the Labatt Coupe Canada Cup patch. “Big Bird” never played in the actual tornament as he had previously committed himself to partake in a Polo tournament and held true to his word, much to the shock and dismay of his Team Canada teammates. As us hobbyists know, the 1987 Team Canada players got to take home their white jerseys. Chelios joined the Montreal Canadiens defense in the spring of 1984. Larry Robinson was the team’s anchor having already carved out his revered status with Les Habitants. These legendary Hall of Fame friends were teammates in Montreal for 6 seasons and they celebrated the 1986 Stanley Cup Championship together. This is the first time that we remember seeing a white 1987 Canada Cup tournament jersey ever come to auction. Offered is a wonderful opportunity for the Team Canada collector to acquire a rare and beloved style, directly from The Chris Chelios Collection.
