1987 Ian Kidd North Dakota Fighting Sioux 10k Gold NCAA Championship Ring – Ian Kidd Letter
Lot #260

This 1987 North Dakota NCAA Championship ring comes from the collection of Ian Kidd. A signed letter from Mr. Kidd will accompany your purchase.

This beautiful 10K gold Championship ring was given to Ian Kidd for playing on the 1987 NCAA Champion North Dakota Fighting Sioux. The Sioux finished the 1986-87 season with a 40-8-0 record, winning 24 of their final 26 games. They beat St. Lawrence in the Quarterfinals, Harvard in the Semi-Finals and Michigan State in the Finals to win the Championship. North Dakota featured Tony Hrkac, who set a record for points in a season with 116 while also winning the Hobey Baker Award. He was named the NCAA tournaments Outstanding Player with Kidd, Bob Joyce and freshman Ed Belfour being named to the All-Tournament team. This was Belfour’s only season at North Dakota. Kidd scored the first goal of the Championship game and then assisted on the 3rd as North Dakota built a 3-0 first period lead on the way to victory. Kidd would then be awarded All NCAA First Team honors for his 13-Goal, 47-Assist and 60-Point season in 47 Games Played.

Ian Kidd was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1986 NHL Supplemental Draft. Kidd played mostly in the AHL and IHL but did play 20 games for the Vancouver Canucks over parts of 2 seasons.

This 10k gold ring features “ND” in the center with “NCAA Champions” surrounding it. One shank features a hockey player and is engraved with the player name “Kidd” and player number “4”. The other shank features an Indian Head and the school emblem with the year the school was founded 1883. Inside are the player’s initials “IK” as well as the manufacturer’s stamp “Jostens” and 10k. The 1986-87 season was North Dakota’s 5th Championship in school history. This is a beautiful keepsake from this perennial NCAA hockey powerhouse.
