1987 Gary Suter Team USA Canada Cup Game Worn Jersey
Lot #61

This blue air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Gary Suter during the 1987 Canada Cup. The Calgary Flames selected Suter in the 9th round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. After playing two seasons of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, this Madison, WI native made his NHL debut in 1985-86 with Calgary. It was a magical year for Suter who won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year and then went to the Stanley Cup Finals later that spring. Suter spent 9 seasons with the Flames and won a Stanley Cup in 1989. He joined the Chicago Blackhawks in 1993-94 and spent parts of five seasons with the club before wrapping up his career several years later with the San Jose Sharks. In a 17-year NHL career, Suter was selected to play in five NHL All Star Games and was named 2nd Team NHL All Star in 1987-88. On the international stage, Suter represented Team USA in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, two Canada Cups and two Olympics. Suter was elected to the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work at the back collar and under the arm. On the back player number is a beautiful blue sharpie signature in Suter’s own hand. Suter played in five games and registered three points to go along with 9 PIMS while representing Team USA during the 1987 Canada Cup. A nice early career offering of this US Hockey Hall of Famer.
