1987 Corey Millen Team USA Canada Cup Game Worn Jersey
Lot #75

This blue air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Corey Millen during the 1987 Canada Cup. The New York Rangers selected Millen in the 3rd round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. This Cloquet, MN native played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota before spending time with Team USA in 1987-88. Corey partook in the 1987 Canada Cup, competed with the National Team for a full season and then represented the U.S. in the 1988 Olympics. Millen made his NHL debut in 1989-90 with the Rangers where he played for parts of three seasons. Millen went on to play for the Los Angeles Kings, the New Jersey Devils, the Dallas Stars and the Calgary Flames where he completed his 8-year NHL career. Millen then headed to Europe where he played for 6 more seasons before retiring

Light but obvious game use exists on this size 50 sweater that includes some stick and slash marks, board burns and inner pilling. Millen who was subbing for the injured Joe Mullen, was wearing this sweater during Team USA’s rough and tumble game against Team Canada. During that memorable contest, Corey infamously took a minor for too many men on the ice late in the 2nd period of a 1-1 game that led to Mario Lemieux’s tie-breaking goal. After Canada went up 3-1 on another Lemieux tally early in the 3rd period, Millen scored a goal for Team USA when he deflected Gary Suter’s slapper to make the score 3-2 which proved to be the final score. A nice piece of Team USA history from the memorable 1987 Canada Cup.
