Description
1987-88 Mel Bridgman Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey
Lot #20
This home white knit gamer by CCM and Eastside was worn by Mel Bridgman during the 1987-88 NHL season. The Philadelphia Flyers selected Bridgman with the 1st overall pick in the 1975 NHL Entry Draft. This Trenton, ONT native joined the team immediately and became a staple in the Broad Street Bullies lineup. At the beginning of his 7th year in Philadelphia, the Flyers dealt him to the Calgary Flames. Mel spent two seasons in Calgary before joining the New Jersey Devils for four seasons. Mel next represented Detroit for a couple of years before spending a final season in Vancouver. Considered among the toughest players of his generation, Mel often found himself squaring off against the NHL’s best fighters, and faring quite well for being 6 foot 190 lbs. Bridgman amassed 1625 PIMS and scored 252 career goals over his 14 seasons. Considered a great leader, Mel took over as the Flyers Team Captain from Hall of Famer Bobby Clarke in 1979-80 and helped lead his team to an NHL record 35-game unbeaten streak and a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Bridgman also served in the prestigious role for the New Jersey Devils, quite impressively serving as Team Captain for two franchises.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, washed out bloodstains and inner pilling. Bridgman wore this sweater on home ice during his last season with the Red Wings.
