1987-88 Martin Burgers Fort Wayne Komets Game Worn Jersey
Lot #291

This home white mesh gamer by Pedersons was worn by Martin Burgers during the 1987-88 IHL season. This 6’ 4” native of Djenenveen, Holland made his North American debut in 1981-82, playing with the Baltimore Skipjacks, Hershey Bears and Fort Wayne Komets. Burgers spent five seasons in the IHL, one of those with Peoria and another four as a member of the Fort Wayne Komets between 1981-82 and 1988-89.

Sewn to the lower verso of this gamer is the Pembroke patch. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and a team-sewn repair. The custom coin and lace fight strap remains sewn just beneath the back player number. On the right breast is a black sharpie autograph in Burgers’ own hand. Martin established a single season best 144 PIMS in 75 games while wearing this jersey during the 1987-88 season.
