This road red air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Larry Murphy during the 1987-88 NHL season. Murphy, who was the 4th overall selection in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft and was later inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004 in his first year of eligibility, spent 21 seasons on NHL ice. During that time he captured 4 Stanley Cups, 2 each with Pittsburgh and Detroit. He ranks in the top 15 on the NHL’s all-time career assists list. He also ranks 5th on the all-time scoring list for defensemen with over 1200 points. He is 2nd in career NHL games played trailing only Gordie Howe. Larry tallied double-digit goals in an impressive 16 different seasons. His 150+ career playoff points rank him in the top 20 of all-time. Murph performed at an elite level for 2 decades, earning 2nd team All Star selections in the 1980’s and 90’s.
After being selected 4th overall by the LA Kings in 1980, Murphy began his NHL career in Los Angeles that fall. Larry spent the first 3 years of his career in LA. Merely 6 games into his 4th year with the Kings, he was dealt to the Washington Capitals in one of the most lopsided trades in league history. Larry spent a productive 6 seasons in the Nation’s Capital that included an 81-point season.
The game wear on this size 54 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, sweat staining around the collar, inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. On the fight strap is a blue sharpie signature in Murphy’s own hand. A nice Hall of Fame offering.
