Lot #333

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to present The Darryl Shannon Collection. This exciting collection of game worn jerseys comes directly from the personal collection of NHL defenseman Darryl Shannon. Darryl personally collected these items over the course of his playing career, which spanned the 1980’s thru the 2000’s. The collection begins with his days in juniors, goes right through his NHL career and into his final few professional seasons while playing in Europe. A signed letter from Mr. Shannon will accompany your purchase.

This orange knit gamer by Cooper and Essex Sports was worn by Darryl Shannon during the 1987-88 OHL season. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Shannon in the 2nd round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. Shannon starred for 3 seasons with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL, where in 1987-88 he won the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL’s most outstanding defenseman and led his team to the Memorial Cup Final, earning All Star status in the process. Darryl made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1988-89 with whom he played for 5 years. Shannon next signed with the Winnipeg Jets as a Free Agent in 1993-94. He would play for parts of 3 seasons with the Jets before a trade sent him to Buffalo in February 1996. Shannon spent 4 seasons representing the Sabres and was a member of Buffalo when they trekked to the Stanley Cup Finals in the spring of 1999. Darryl wrapped up his NHL career with brief stints in Atlanta, Calgary and finally Montreal where he played his last NHL games in 2000-01. Shannon then spent 3 seasons in Europe where he wrapped up his playing career in the DEL. All told this defenseman spent 13 seasons in the NHL. During his career he had the privilege to play alongside his younger brother Darrin while with Windsor in juniors and as members of the Winnipeg Jets.

The game wear on this size XL sweater is tremendous and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, trauma, heavy inner pilling and no less than a dozen team-sewn repairs. Shannon led the Spitfires to the Memorial Cup Final and earned Memorial Cup All Star status in 1987-88. He also captured the 1987-88 Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL’s most outstanding defenseman for his stellar efforts on the strength of 16 goals and 70 assists for 86 points and 116 PIMS in 60 regular season games played while wearing this sweater. This jersey comes directly from the personal collection of Darryl Shannon and will be accompanied by his signed letter.
