This home white knit gamer by CCM and Eastside was worn by Mike O’Connell during the 1986-87 or 1987-88 NHL season. The Chicago Blackhawks selected O’Connell in the 3rd round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. Mike, a Chicago native, began his NHL career in 1977-78 with the Hawks and spent 3 seasons in the Windy City before joining the Boston Bruins during the 1980-81 campaign. Following parts of 6 years in Beantown, O’Connell joined the Detroit Red Wings at the deadline in 1985-86. Mike spent the remaining 5 years of his NHL career in the Motor City, retiring after the 1989-90 season. This defenseman was an NHL All Star and represented Team USA in the World Championships as well as the 1981 Canada Cup.
Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, heavy inner pilling and a couple of team-sewn repairs. A nice offering of this former NHL All Star.
