1986-87 Jeff Brubaker Hershey Bears Game Worn Jersey - Hershey vs. Rochester Playoff Brawl
Lot #348

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers and tough guys to the hobby exclusively thru our Spring 2018 Auction. These 11 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, most which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This road maroon knit gamer by CCM and Tendler’s Hockey was worn by Jeff Brubaker during the 1986-87 AHL season. The Boston Bruins selected Brubaker in the 6th round of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. This notorious tough guy from Hagerstown, MD played his college hockey at Michigan State University. Brubaker chose the WHA over the NHL at the outset of his career and spent time with the WHA’s New England Whalers in 1978-79. He merged with the franchise into the NHL and spent a couple of seasons with the Hartford Whalers before joining the Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. In between time in the WHA and NHL, Jeff spent some time in the CHL with the Colorado Flames, the IHL with the Colorado Rangers and the AHL where he suited up for Rochester, Springfield, Binghamton, Nova Scotia, Hershey and Adirondack. This enforcer left his mark, accumulating 512 PIMS in 178 NHL games played over the course of 8 seasons. During his minor league career he amassed 1554 PIMS in 511 games played!

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, collar pilling, heavy inner pilling and a team-sewn repair. Fight abuse includes a stitch popped and un-repaired front collar and a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust. Brubaker wore this exact jersey during the infamous pre-game brawl during the 1987 playoffs that he instigated with Andy Ristau of Rochester. Shown above are some video highlights of the brawl as well as some screen caps of Brubaker from the incident. Nine players were ejected between Hershey and Rochester including Brubaker who served a 2-game suspension. So nasty was the incident, a Buffalo councilman referred to it as a “savage attack with skates and sticks” in a letter that he sent to Buffalo Police asking them to probe the fight. A wonderful minor league example long removed from hobby circulation and worn during an infamous playoff brawl that Brubaker himself instigated!
