1986-87 Guy Carbonneau Montreal Canadiens Game Worn Jersey
Lot #42

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Guy Carbonneau during the 1986-87 NHL season. The Montreal Canadiens selected Carbonneau in the 3rd round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. Guy made his NHL debut in 1980-81 with Les Habitants and spent the first 13 years of his 19-year, 1318-game NHL career with Montreal. Following 2 Stanley Cup titles with the Canadiens, Carbonneau spent a season with the St. Louis Blues before joining the Dallas Stars where he spent the final 5 years of his storied career. During his final 2 years with the Stars, Carbonneau made back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Finals and skated away with his 3rd Stanley Cup ring. In the tradition of Bob Gainey before him, Carbonneau took over the reigns as the NHL’s best defensive forward and was so recognized with 3 Frank J. Selke Trophies spanning 1988 to 1992.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, plenty of board paint transfer from the old Montreal Forum, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, heavy inner pilling and by our count more than 100 team-sewn repairs! Carbonneau was establishing himself as the sports’ dominant defensive forward while wearing this sweater in front of the hometown fans during the 1986-87 season. Guy was voted runner up for the 1986-87 Frank J. Selke Trophy and of course went on to win the prestigious award the following two seasons, his first two of the three times he captured the Selke. A spectacular hammered example that graced the storied Montreal Forum as the Canadiens defended their title as Stanley Cup Champions.
