This home white knit gamer by CCM and Eastside was worn by Greg Stefan during the 1986-87 NHL season. Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 1981, Stefan played his entire 9-year NHL career in Hockeytown, spanning 1981-82 thru 1989-90. Greg backstopped the Red Wings during their back-to-back runs to the Conference Finals in 1987 and 1988 where they fell to the dynasty Edmonton Oilers both seasons. He was a 3-time 20 game winner and appeared in a career high 50 games for the Wings in 1983-84. Known for aggressively protecting his crease, Stefan received some memorable and lengthy suspensions by the league for altercations involving his stick and other player’s heads, memorably Dan Frawley and Al Secord.
Stefan wore this sweater during one of the most exciting seasons for Red Wings fans in quite some time, as they watched their team march all the way to the Conference Finals. Greg played in 43 games that season, winning 20 with 3 ties and a shutout. His GAA of 3.45 was pretty solid considering the era, and one of the best totals of his career.
This gamer has been customized with panels sewn into the sides to widen the body. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and puck marks, washed out bloodstains, a heavily salted and rusted fight strap, pulls, pilling and a team-sewn repair on the belly. A beautiful example that should grab the attention of both Red Wings and goalie collectors alike.
