Description
1986-87 Chris Chelios Canadiens Game Worn Jersey
Lot #12

This road red knit gamer by CCM was worn by Chris Chelios during the 1986-87 NHL season. Chelios began his career as a 2nd round draft choice of the Montreal Canadiens. He would serve the club for seven seasons before moving to the Chicago Blackhawks in a deal for Denis Savard. He would remain with the Blackhhawks for nine seasoons before joining the Detroit Red Wings where he still takes the ice.

Thus far this iron man has partook in more than 1600 regular season games and is now playing in his 25th NHL season. His accolades are numerous with totals of nearly 200 goals and aproaching 950 points to accompany almonst 2900 career PIMS. Add to these regular season totals another 144 playoff points and 421 playoff PIMS. His trophy case includes 3 Stanley Cups and 3 James Norris Memorial Trophies awarded to the NHL’s best defenseman. He was named a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star on at least a half dozen occasions and has partook in the annual NHL All Star game double digit times.

Born in Chicago, Chris has been an active participant over the years for Team USA. He was a member of the 1984, 1987 and 1991 Canada Cup teams, the 1996 World Cup Team and of course the United States Olympic Team on more than one occasion. A spot in the Hall of Fame no doubt awaits this brilliant career to come to a close.

This jerseys provenance can be traced back to Sylvain Toupin, the Montreal Canadiens assistant equipment manager. Toupin gave this jersey to Yvon Belanger, a Montreal Canadiens team therapist, from whom it entered our hobby. The game wear is noticeably light consisting of some light stick marks and board burns as well as some inner pilling. This is a tough find from early in the career of this future Hall of Famer.
