Description
1985-86 Marty McSorley Edmonton Oilers Game Worn Jersey - Team Letter
Lot #28
This road blue heavy mesh gamer by Nike was worn by Marty McSorley during the 1985-86 NHL season, his first year with the Edmonton Oilers. This undrafted enforcer carved out an impressive niche and thus earned himself an impressive 17-year NHL career. During that time, Marty partook in 961 regular season contests and amassed an unthinkable 3381 PIMS, good for 4th best in NHL history! In 115 playoff contests he totaled another 374 PIMS!

During his career, McSorley went to 3 Stanley Cup Finals, all while skating alongside Wayne Gretzky. The first two were winning efforts in Edmonton, while the last was unsuccessful with the Kings in 1993. Marty’s career began in Pittsburgh and his stay there was brief, playing parts of 2 seasons before joining the Oilers in 1985-86. After just 3 seasons in Edmonton, Marty joined the LA Kings where he continued in his role as Wayne Gretzky’s protection. McSorley spent 8 seasons in Los Angeles, 2 years with San Jose, one return engagement with Edmonton and then a final season with the Boston Bruins before announcing his retirement.

The 1985-86 season was McSorley’s first with the Oilers and it didn’t take Marty long to adopt the role of bodyguard. In 59 regular season contests he amassed 265 PIMS and for good measure he added another 50 PIMS in 8 playoff games that season.

This amazing gamer originated from Oliers owner, Peter Pocklington’s collection and a signed letter by Pocklington will accompany your purchase. The game wear on this vintage size XL sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, tremendous inner pilling and team-sewn repairs. The Oilers replaced the original Nike fight strap with a more modern and sturdy example to better-fit Marty’s needs. Just a fantastic battered enforcer’s gamer, hailing the Pocklington Collection and donned by one of the all-time great heavyweights in NHL history, choice!
