This home white mesh gamer by Nike was worn by Jari Kurri during the 1985-86 NHL season. It’s hard to believe that the first-born Hall of Famer from Finland lasted until the 4th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. It was in that moment that the Oilers found the perfect compliment to play alongside Wayne Gretzky for the better part of the next decade. Kurri’s Hall of Fame career spanned 17 NHL seasons. The first 10 of those were spent in Edmonton where Jari went to 6 Stanley Cup Finals and walked away with 5 Stanley Cup rings. So great was his legacy in Edmonton, where he is 2nd in all-time points for an Oiler behind only Wayne Gretzky, that his number 17 was retired by the team.

Kurri would eventually follow Gretzky to Los Angeles where the tandem was again found playing for Lord Stanley’s Cup in 1993. Jari spent 5 years in Los Angeles before a deadline deal in 1996 reunited him with former teammate Mark Messier in New York. He went on to finish his career with single seasons in Anaheim and Colorado.

In 1251 career regular season games, Kurri netted 601 goals and added 797 assists for a total of 1398 points. Kurri ranks 3rd on the all-time playoff scoring list with 233 points, trailing only his Edmonton teammates, Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier. Kurri won the 1985 Lady Byng Trophy and was five times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star while also partaking in 8 NHL All Star Games. On the international stage, Kurri played in the 1980 and 1998 Olympics, the 1981, 1987 and 1991 Canada Cups, Rendezvous ’87, numerous World Championships and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. To say he is revered in his native Finland would be an understatement, as he continues to support the country’s hockey programs to this day.

The game wear on this size L/G sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, material pulls, stitch pops and trauma, heavy inner pilling and 10 team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Kurri wearing this exact jersey during the 1985-86 season. Also shown above is a video match of Kurri wearing this exact jersey during a 12/20/85 game against the LA Kings in which he scored four goals. Kurri was simply magnificent while wearing this sweater at Northlands Coliseum in front of the hometown fans. In 78 games played during the 1985-86 season, Kurri lit the lamp 68 times and added 63 assists for 131 points to record one of the finest seasons for a RW in NHL history! For his efforts, Kurri played in the NHL All Star Game and was named 2nd Team NHL All Star. The 1985-86 season was a historic one in Edmonton as “The Great One” scored a still standing NHL record 215 points, many of which came while skating alongside Jari Kurri while wearing this very sweater. A tremendous well-worn photo matched example that shared the ice with Wayne Gretzky during his historic record setting 215-point NHL season, choice!
