1985-86 Brian Sutter St. Louis Blues Game Worn Jersey - Retired Number
Lot #25

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Brian Sutter during the 1985-86 NHL season. The St. Louis Blues selected Sutter in the 2nd round of the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft. Sutter began his career with the Blues in 1976-77 and spent his entire 12 NHL seasons with the team that drafted him. Sutter’s tenacity and leadership was legendary and the youngster was named Team Captain in 1979 at just 23 years of age. He served as the Blues Captain until his retirement in 1988. Sutter was a 3-time NHL All Star who twice eclipsed the 40-Goal plateau. In 779 games played, Sutter lit the lamp 303 times, scored 636 points and amassed 1786 PIMS. In a 3-year span Sutter rang up PIMS totals of 232, 239 and 254! The Blues retired Brian’s #11 to the rafters in 1988. He is the only one of 6 Sutter Brothers to have their number retired.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. Sewn into the collar is the born on tagging that reads “85-07”. The game wear on this size 48 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, washed out blood and sweat stains and fine pilling both inside and out. Sutter missed nearly half of the 1985-86 season with a broken scapula and played through intense pain the rest of the time. Despite this, he rang up 19 Goals, 42 Points and 87 PIMS in 44 games played. Many believe that if Brian were healthy the Blues would have found a way to win their playoff battle against Calgary in the Conference Finals and earn themselves a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. A well-worn fresh to the block offering that sports the coveted letter of honor and was worn by Sutter during the franchise’s most exciting season of the era, choice!
