1985-86 Bob Probert Red Wings Game Worn Jersey - Rookie - "60-year Anniversary" - Photo Match
Lot #167

This home white knit gamer by CCM and Eastside was worn by Bob Probert during the 1985-86 NHL season, his rookie year in the league. After being drafted in 1983, Probert made his NHL debut with Detroit during the 1985-86 season. He began doing his thing right from the start, chipping in 21 points and 186 PIMS in 44 games as a rookie. He would soon make a strong impact on the Wings.

In 1987 and 1988, Bob helped lead his team to the Conference Finals where they fell both times to the Oilers dynasty. In the 88 playoffs, Probert tallied 8 goals, 21 points and 51 PIMS in 16 games played, showing his true versatility. Probert spent his first 9 seasons with the Red Wings. After some off ice problems, Probert’s career landed him in Chicago where he ran roughshot over the league with the Blackhawks for 7 seasons. All told Bob played for 16 seasons in the NHL and retired as one of the all-time penalty minute leaders with 3300 PIMS! Considered one of the most feared men who ever laced up the skates, this tough guy will never be forgotten by the fans who witnessed his wrath.

Embroidered on the left shoulder of this rookie gamer is the Detroit Red Wings 60-year anniversary patch. The game wear on this jersey consists of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired holes and fine inner pilling. Fight abuse is readily evident as the front of the collar has been tugged into a v-shape while a plethora of washed out bloodstains are readily visible on the front of this gamer.

Shown above are several photo matches of Probert wearing this exact jersey during his rookie season. Our consignor recently spoke with Mr. Probert who when asked, recalled only having worn 1 home and 1 road jersey during his entire rookie year. Bob explained that he was called up mid-season his rookie year and didn’t play much other than being called upon to fight, etc... This would have been the jersey that Probert wore in his NHL debut on 11/06/85. Bob also would have scored his first NHL goal while wearing this jersey on 12/21/85 against the Chicago Black Hawks. For those who collect the all-time great heavyweights, presented here is a truly rare opportunity to acquire one of Bob’s rookie gamers. Good luck!
