1985-86 Bill Derlago Boston Bruins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #69
This black mesh gamer by CCM was likely worn by Bill Derlago during the 1985-86 NHL season. The Vancouver Canucks selected Derlago in the 1st round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. This Birtle, MAN native made his NHL debut in 1978-79 with the Canucks where he played for parts of two seasons before being dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the deal that sent Tiger Williams to the Canucks. Derlago spent parts of 7 seasons with the Leafs before finishing up his career with stops in Boston, Winnipeg and Quebec. Derlago was a four-time 30-Goal scorer with a career best 40 Goals coming in 1983-84 with Toronto.

The Leafs and Bruins squared off in the season opener on October 10, 1985 at Boston Garden. Derlago was traded to Boston the next day, on October 11 as the Bruins took to the road for their away opener October 12, in Detroit. We surmise that this 1984-85 style sweater was made up by the training staff for Derlago either for the road opener or at another point of need during Bill’s short 39 game-stint with the Bruins, something commonplace with the Bruins during this era. The game wear on this sweater is light but obvious with some stick marks, board burns, noticeable collar pilling and light inner pilling. Likely one or two game sweater by this former 40-Goal scorer during his brief tenure as a member of the Boston Bruins.
